Mural by Os Gêmeos – Otavio and Gustavo Pandolfo

A mural by two Brazilian graffiti artists who call themselves Os Gêmeos has burst upon a corner of Houston Street and the Bowery

“With their first public artwork in Manhattan, which went up at the northwest corner of Houston Street and the Bowery on July 17, the Brazilian brothers Otavio and Gustavo Pandolfo, who call themselves Os Gêmeos, bring graffiti art to its Rococo phase. Which is to say that their fantastic, epic mural, on a concrete wall about 17 feet high and about 51 feet long, is light and frothy, a dream of happiness with an underlying chord of melancholy. And everything in it is exquisitely fine-tuned and detailed, a dazzlement of effortless technique that sustains long bouts of close looking. It will remain up until March.”

Keith Haring Skateboard for $16,000

Way back in 1987, pop artist, Keith Haring took a magic marker to a skateboard, and decorated it with his trademark characters. Last month, it sold for a cool $16,250 at Phillips de Pury. On the auction block were also works from such artists as Ed Templeton, Shepard Fairey, Kaws, Cindy Sherman etc… Haring’s skateboard ended up being the third highest selling item.

SK8FACE

SK8FACE is a feature film about the evolution of skateboard graphics.

Where did skateboard graphics come from? How did they evolve? Meet the masters who changed the face of Art History and Skateboard Evolution. If you like grip tape, paint markers, pens, pencils, pools, curbs, ledges, concrete, plywood, power tools, sawdust, grinding, art, design, photography, music, film, video, xeroxes, silk screening, spray paint, urethane, sealed bearings, going fast, old school, new school, making stuff or skating stuff, you have arrived…

“Its been in production for a minute and there still isn’t any definitive release date but Sk8face is going to be fresh for sure when its finally done. Get production updates on the Sk8face blog. This is some real OG art shit.”

Moving Onwards

Onwards from AKQA on Vimeo.

See the Full Video at http://www.onwards.tv/

“Talented and well-known British illustrator James Jarvis recently masterminded a short animation film titled Onwards. In this behind the scenes interview, he discusses his personality and life which ultimately contributed to the story and plot-line of the video. Over the three videos, a look into Jarvis’ animation style and work can be seen first hand.

Born in London in 1970 and raised on a diet of Richard Scarry, Tintin, Judge Dredd and Albert Camus, James Jarvis studied illustration at the University of Brighton and the Royal College of Art, graduating in 1995. He has gone on to establish himself as a graphic artist of international repute.”

Guitar Hero Redux

If you are anything like me — you suck at Guitar Hero — but chances are you are not because almost everyone on the planet can at least rock out to the basics! Chalk it up to poor coordination/ADHD. Nonetheless, I love to watch others play and find myself entranced by the on screen visuals that coordinate to the tunes. Thank you to JUL & MAT for creatively enriching that experience.
